operation date night: bees game

who: mr. and mrs. jenerek
where: the bees game, spring mobile ballpark, salt lake city utah
what for: operation date night june edition
when: the end of june
why: we love bees games! especially sitting out in the outfield sprawled out on a blanket. the people watching couldn't be better - awkward dates, old drunk men, groups of junior high girls/boys walking back and forth scoping for one night hook ups... yeah. gotta love the people watching. And who doesn't love the suspense of whether or not your car will be broken into by the end of the night? {ours was safe} let's be honest, that side of town isn't exactly my idea of squeaky clean. oh bees games, how i love thee.

and we're nerds :) not really sure what's going on here...

reese - 10 months

major accomplishments
- professional crawler
- can pull herself up on everything, but while she was learning she would bite whatever it was she was climbing as if to steady her balance and then pull herself up. hilarious. nan may have a few holes in her leather ottoman :).
- 8th tooth finally makes its' debut
- first campout
- the pointing begins
- mastering the finger food
- first ear infection. ugh.

a few of her favorite things
- blueberries!!! holy smokes. this gal can eat a pint in one sitting.
- swimming and bath time
- being outside just hangin' on the grass
- books. we can read 5 in one sitting and she still wants more.
-playing tag while crawling. she thinks it's the funniest thing ever.

backyard campout

who: our little fam
where: nan and grumpy's backyard
when: friday june 25
what: campfire, roasting mallows, and family sleepover in the tent - reese sleeping in between mommy and daddy
why: for fun! as we hope to have many family campouts in the future, we wanted to do a test run with reese sleeping in the tent without a packn'play or crib.
how did it go: i'd say, it was a 75% success. she LOVED the mallows. and she thought it was just about the greatest thing ever to hang out in the tent with mom and dad. especially at 2:00am when she woke up and noticed HEY!! mom and dad are, like, RIGHT here with me!! i woke up to her crawling all over me. it took until 3:00am to get her back to sleep. then she woke up at 6:30am because she was cold, so i brought her into my sleeping bag. bad idea. don't ask me how, but it is possible for a 10 month old to kick a grown adult out of their own sleeping bag and pillow. still love her though. and her snuggles made it totally worth it.

in effort to make the catch up process easier, i've decided all my summer posts about particular events will follow the 5W's format. easy to write. easy to read. easy peasy all around. so first up, this is the place park.

who: me, reese, grandma, sisters-in-law and sister and kids, cousin meg
where: this is the place state park, salt lake city, ut
what for: to get out and about and explore and eat farr's ice cream and maybe learn something about the pioneers
when: wed june 30
why: annie and fam came in town, so we all brought the kiddos and had a grand ol' time. my favorite part was the petting zoo. awesome.

the whole gang eating farr's ice cream! i have to say, that farr's bubble gum ice cream is even better than it was when i was 7. i'm still dreaming about it.

thanks mom! we had such a great time! nothing like dates with grandma...

reese - 9 months

{still part of the catch up posts. sigh. someday i'll be all caught up.}

since this event happened the end of may, i'm having a hard time remembering what happened when she was 9 months as opposed to 10 months. but i'll give it a whirl.

major accomplishments
- started crawling!!! wahoo!! on the exact day of her 9 month birthday around 7:00PM. yes. i remember weird details like that.
- 7 teeth had made their debut
- clapping when we say "yay!"
- went swimming for the first time. it went fabulously. she LOVES the pool. sigh of relief for mom.
- first time on an air plane. overall, it went ok. she hates confined spaces. could have been worse.
- she must have an imaginary boyfriend named "bob". talks about him all the time.

a few of her favorite things
- morning walks. this gal loves her some outdoors.
- her daddy. still quite the little pair. if he's around there is nothing by joy and giggling.
- the pool
- reading books
- watching other little kids
- not wearing her hat. refuses to wear a hat or sunglasses while swimming. argh... which resulted in the first time a stranger commented on my lack of parenting skills. it was a 50 year old man, married to a french women and they had an adopted asian child who was perfectly dressed in her designer swim apparel and big floppy hat. and their pefect child kept her hat and sunglasses on the entire time. he basically told me that because i wouldn't keep a hat on my child she would be BLIND. FOREVER. and it would all be MY fault!!! i wanted to hand reese over to him and say, "ok smarty pants. you make her wear it, and then come talk to me. just because my child has some spunk..." but i refrained. and smiled. and said "thanks for the suggestion." and then i moved to a different side of the pool.

the major event of the month was our family vacation to california. other than the plane, she was quite the traveling champ. We skipped naps, stayed up late, went all sorts of fun places, and totally threw away the schedule and she still managed to be a happy little thang majority of the time.  i didn't realize how thoroughly exhausted she was though until we got home and she slept 14, as in FOURTEEN straight hours the first night in her crib. Her normal is about 11. The second night she slept 13 hours and then it was back to normal. but still. isn't that crazy?? she's never done that before, and hasn't done it since. She's a funny little chica. Sure love her.

happy birthday katie!!!

So this post is like more than a month late. It, unfortunately, was a casualty of the calamitous computer meltdown of twenty ten. But better late than never right? Anyway, here are a few of my favorite things about my youngest sibling.

Katie has some serious musical talent. Not only was she a lead in Davis High's musical last Fall, but she was also one of the primary leads in Kaysville City's summer musical production. And those are just a couple of musical accomplishments she's had only in the past year. There are countless others. Her pipes are akin to an angel's.

She is awesome at sharing. And she's even a spoiled youngest child! (note: Katie doesn't act spoiled, she just gets lots of fantastic things that we older ones didn't... vacations, lots of shopping excursions, hair appointments, etc.. No hard feeling though :) ) Who'd of thunk? Seriously though. She never thinks twice about letting me borrow any clothes, makeup, etc... Isn't that a great trait to have? I know I was awful at that as a teen. Maybe had something to do about being a middle child - had to stake out my territory. Yeah, that's what I'll keep telling myself... it had nothing to do with being selfish :). Yup. Katie's a rock star.

She's the blue eyed, blonde haired bombshell of the family. Lucky duck. Her hair is amazing. Long, long, long flowing locks of gold. And those eyes? You better watch out, college men.

She is incredibly obedient. Especially for a youngest child. She could get away with murder if she really wanted to (no offense madre :), but I must say I think the strictness levels have come down a bit.) Kudos to her for not taking advantage. She's a good egg.

Katie fills the youngest child roll with a lot of grace. My family can sometimes be an overbearing bunch, and somehow she still puts up with all of us. Crazy opinions and rants galore.  Little does she know she'll have to put up with even more as she enters the world of college dating. Oh boy. I feel bad for any men lucky enough to be introduced to the fam. I'm sure they'll be grilled to the max.  And if there's anything we N siblings are opinionated about, it's our sibling's dating choices. Poor, poor Katie. But like I said, if there's anyone who can put up with it, it's Katie!!

Happy Birthday Kate!! I love you! Welcome to the wonderful world of adulthood!! And again, I'm so sorry this post is so after the fact!
