operation date night july; and how my stubborn self is so awesome

who: deek & jen, sisters'-in-law, cousin reed's
where: pioneer stadium, ogden utah
what: sweating under the blistering evening sun, lovin' some good ole rodeo buck offs, seeing the miss rodeo utah contestants in all their sequined glory
when: july 24, 2010
why: doubled as july's special date night planned by deek and for my birthday date!

so funny story that goes along with this one. we were running a little late and didn't get to the rodeo until 15 minutes prior to go time. apparently this is an event that requires a little more advanced planning. the entire stadium was full except for one little section directly behind the announcers stilted hut. the view was awful. If you leaned to your left or to the right you could catch a tiny glimpse of part of the field. that just really wouldn't do.

deek scrambled to go save seats. i walked up to where he was and the view was even worse than we thought it was going to be. i started getting a little perturbed. "are you sure this is the best we can do?" i asked. i already knew the answer.

"i did not pay fifteen lousy bucks for a seat like this. i refuse to sit here," i proclaimed.

and then i did something that any good respectful wife should never do. i turned my back to my dear husband and huffed down the stairs completely ignoring his calls of "jen!! jeeeeennnnn!! this is the best we're going to be able to find love...." didn't even turn my head.

i was one stubborn, obstinate, determined woman. when i want something, i'm going to get it, darn it. it's an endearing trait, really. {and i'm sure that's what deek was thinking at that moment.}

now since we were the first of our party to arrive we were the designated seat savers, so not only did i have to find seats for the husband and myself, but five other adults and 2 children as well.  just perfect. finding room for two will be hard enough...

i had to find seats. my pride was on the line and the thought of retreating back to an "i told you so" made me all the more resolved. i was a woman with a mission.  people of pioneer stadium watch out!

and then i saw them. mid way up and right above the bull stalls. half a bench hidden by some lady's giant umbrella. thank you lady's giant umbrella.

i pushed my way up through the crowd and asked all around if they were taken. and what do you know? they weren't. can someone say score? and by some insanse draw of luck there was even room for all of these fabulous people:

i smuggly plopped down and waved deek over. "you should really love me right now," i said {humility is also another great trait of mine} as i soaked in all of my obstinate glory. the seats were awesome. i was awesome. and date night would now in fact be awesome. and we were even close enough so that this guy flew in right over our heads:

thank you strong willed self. and thank you husband for not killing me when i'm being such a big ole' pain in the hoohaa. especially when you've planned such a nice date night. kisses, jen.
