cabin retreat

who: jen & katie, our kiddos, and sadie for the first half, the men joined us the second half
where: hawaii {psych!}
what: 4wheeling, talking til' all hours of the morning, linkin' logs, early morning walks, cool nights, klondikes, cousin baths, and petting horses
when: july 15-17
why: to get out of the hot valley and spend some time just relaxing with kids

we ventured on an early morning walk and it turned into a little bigger walk then we had planned. we hiked the entire loop. which, with twenty el-bees strapped to your front and a few months of not exercising, turned into quite the jaunt.  this is us once we finally reached the summit of that blasted hill:

i know. you love the footed jammies with sandals look that reese is sportin'. and my killer hair. i scoff at all fashion when i'm at the cabin. scoff, scoff, scoff.

i just love this next picture of katie and family.

sadie dutifully acted as our guard. which turns out, was probably a good thing since a bear had recently been spotted on the very road we hiked. i love sadie - she evokes dreams of someday having our very own family dog. but that'll have to wait til we, like, idunno, have a yard. reese LOVES sadie. which is a big deal because up until this weekend, dogs made her really nervous. but by the end of the weekend reese was touching her nose, tail, and following sadie all around. so cute.

and the entire weekend the only wildlife we saw was one blasted deer {look closely}. sadie must have done her job a little too well.

one evening all five of us piled onto an atv. i wish i had a picture to show you, but sadly i do not.  here's the blessed dear herself {look closely}. to be honest, i'm a little surprised it carried us all. isn't the scenery breathtaking? and you wonder why we frequent the cabin so often. scoff, scoff, scoff...

and where did we go you ask? well, i tell you what {said like 'mater}. it was nuts - we popped right in to the 1850's.

okay. you caught me - not really. i just really like that edit on this next shot of the horse pasture. yup. that's where we went.

and that's where we met these two hooligans - itchy and OoOo. endearingly named by trev.

our favorite was OoOo

mostly because she did funny stuff like this...

but really it was because itchy was a little too aggressive when we tried to feed her. almost took trev's hair off. i think it was because his golden locks probably looked like really awesome yummy hay. and hey, a horse like his hay okay?

and reese LOVED the horses. she's kind of nuts about animals, so visiting the horses was right up her alley.

and then we took pretty pictures sitting on the fence.

and then we cried because we realized we don't actually get to live here year round. dang it.

reese and eliza got more cousin time in. i think these gals are going to have millions of pictures together by the time they reach adulthood. reese reaching adulthood...  wow. can't think of that. i'll probably start crying because she's basically there already.

really, we just had an all around fantastic time. i'm pretty sure at least half of my blog posts have something to do with the cabin. but that's just because it's our little slice of heaven on earth and nothing beats it. thanks katie for the invite! glad i was able to get work off.

until next time...
