I've been wanting something bright and cheery, but almost all of the ready made baby bedding out there is made in either soft pastels or just plain ugly patterns. My personal opinion is that babies like bright happy colors. Or maybe it's just that I like the said colors and I'm hoping my baby will feel the same way? Do babies even care what their rooms look like? Honestly, it's probably all for the moms, but nonetheless I'm a total sucker for the whole idea.
But, back to the subject at hand - making the crib bedding - I've finally decided on the material. Wahoo! At least the material for the bumper. I'm still working on what I want for the bed skirt, and I think I'll end up just buying a couple solid color sheets for the mattress, but I absolutely LOVE what I found for the bumper! It's exactly what I've been wanting:

What do you think? Is it too retro or crazy for you? I LOVE it. I was worried about it being a little dark with the dark brown background, but we're getting a white crib so I think it'll be ok. I can't wait to start working on it! Have any of you made your own bedding? Any tips? Did you use the regular batting or the foam fillers? I'm leaning towards the foam right now since they're a little more sturdy, but they're also a little more expensive so we'll see. Anyways, let the fun (or should I say spending) begin!

I love the fabric! It will be adorable! Another idea would be to just go to Babies R Us and buy a plain white bumber, and then just slide it into your homemade cover. Does that make sense? I know you can get plain white ones for around $12 - $20, and that may be cheaper than foam? Have fun!
It's so cute! Can't wait to see the finished product!
That is so cute! It's funny cause me and nicole were just commenting on that material (she has is as a hooter hider) and how cute of bedding that would make! LOVE IT!!!
Jen I love that material, but I am a sucker for brown and all colors go with brown. I am with Annie I think an already made bumper would be so much easier. If I were you- I'd get some extra of that material and maybe some of the plain colors you'll use for sheets and make an easy quilt (maybe a big square patch quilt) to hang on the wall with some cute quilt hangers. Most quilt patterns you can down sz. just find an easy one you like. Clytie & Brooke both have a cute quilt that hangs that ties into their crib set.
ps I have a quilt I am working on so when you start sewing call me and we can sew and watch movies together!
I think it is so cute! You will be able to do a lot of fun things with the colors in the fabric! I am totally impressed that you are sewing it...I can't wait to see what it looks like!
